Nashville — SSRCx, the commissioning subsidiary of engineering design and facility consulting firm Smith Seckman Reid, has become the fourth commissioning firm in the country to be approved to utilize the Continuous Commissioning platform developed by Texas A&M University. The process gives SSRCx an enhanced ability to resolve operating problems, improve comfort and optimize energy use for existing commercial and institutional buildings and central plant facilities. Continuous Commissioning focuses on improving the overall system control and operations for a building through a comprehensive engineering evaluation based on actual conditions. The evolving process includes two phases to identify the project scope and verify the project performance. After implementing the process in 1996, Texas A&M University has seen a 30 percent reduction in energy usage across 300 campus buildings.
