Buffalo, N.Y. — Kathabar Dehumidification Systems’ Twin-Cel is a liquid desiccant building energy reduction system that transfers both temperature and moisture between the airstreams to allow greater energy savings than the recovery of sensible heat only, the company reports. By preconditioning the ventilation air entering a building with the energy in the exhaust air leaving the building, these systems reportedly reduce heating/cooling and humidifying/dehumidifying energy usage with the added potential of lowering installed equipment costs. Outside air and exhaust air are handled in separate units connected only with piping to prevent microbiological cross-contamination. Twin-Cel systems can improve indoor air quality by scrubbing airborne bacteria, viruses and mold from the ventilation air. Best suited for handling fairly large airflows, up to 108,000 CFM can be handled by a single factory-assembled Twin-Cel system. www.kathabar.com.
