Sustainable Facility eNews April 2008 Edition
|
|
|
| Greetings and welcome to the April 2008 edition of the Sustainable Facility eNews.

Ahhh, the first week of April. Spring is "officially" here; we've made it through yet another April Fool's day round of trickery on Google as well as various other websites, and the Detroit Tigers and a sold-out crowd at Comerica Park have celebrated opening day of the MLB season. However, the ground is still frozen, the winds are whipping, and I have yet to turn down my thermostat or open any windows. I don't know what it is, but spring fever sure has me all riled up something terrible. I honestly can't wait until I can start wearing short-sleeved shirts again, as well as walk out to the car in the morning without
finding it covered in a thick layer of frost.
Oh, well. A sure sign that warmer weather is on the near horizon is the much-anticipated seasonal launch of Bell's Oberon American wheat ale. Having spent many, many years in Kalamazoo, Mich., attending Western Michigan University, the release of the delicious microbrew is synonymous with all things summer.
This April also marks the 39th celebration of Earth Day on April 22. It should comes as no surprise that this year's theme, originating from the Earth Day Network (EDN), is focused on climate change. "Earth Day 2008: A Call for Climate" will feature events around the globe, including seven major cities, 1,000 college campuses and hundreds of communities. A flagship event at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on April 20 will include education, rallies, celebrity and political appearances, special activities and a voter registration component. Simultaneous free events will be held in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas and Miami,
produced by Green Apple Festival and sponsored by Chase. For more information, visit www.earthday.net.
What are some of your favorite spring activities? Does your organization have anything planned in celebration of Earth Day, or the pursuit of greening your facility operations? Drop me a note at maytonj@bnpmedia.com to let me know what you've got on your warm weather agendas.
And, don't forget to keep visiting the Sustainable Facility website! Along with regularly updated Breaking News and Calendar of Events sections, www.SustainableFacility.com
also includes "Only Online" exclusive features that you won't find in our print or digital editions. Be sure to visit regularly - and register as a user - to stay up on events shaping the world of sustainable facility management.
Thanks for reading. (And, keep thinking spring.)
