Welcome to Sustainable Facility's eNews for December 2009

The end of yet another year is upon us, and I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who can't wait for 2009 to finally end. 2010 has to be better, right? But despite the downturn seen this past year, green was one of the few bright spots, according to Sustainable Facility's expert columnists Michael Berning and Tommy Linstroth. Check out this month's SF to see their Perspectives.
But they're not the only ones who are optimistic. During Greenbuild, I talked to a lot of people who are hopeful for the future, especially in the existing building market. I wrote a blog about it, which you can read here
. While the blog itself describes a potential change in the construction industry, a shift of focus by architects, contractors and product manufacturers toward existing buildings could definitely be positive for facility owners/managers. As I described in SF's latest Targeted eNews on Water Conservation, an increased demand and less supply means costs go up. However, an abundance of supply and competition generally means a drop in prices for both goods and services. So if this shift does take place, it could mean a price drop for those looking to "green-up" their facilities.
And you can read all about our experiences at Greenbuild, including news, products, images and more, here.
Enjoy these last few weeks of the year and the holidays to come!
Cheers,
Derrick Teal Sustainable Facility Managing Editor
